Heating System Design
|
To comply with the more prescriptive requirements of the
building regulations, central heating systems need to be designed
and specified correctly. As a certified member of the Institute
of Domestic Heating & Environmental Engineers we have undergone
the training and exam requirements to design efficient and effective
heating systems. |
|
This includes radiator, boiler and complete pipe sizing throughout a property. In addition we can specify
zone controls and offer advice on part L of the building regulations.
Bespoke Controls
Allied Renewable Technologies offers a bespoke software programming service,
where we will design and implement heat system controls designed to maximise
solar contribution and boiler efficiency of your system. Normally the
Siemens LOGO or Mitsubishi Zelio controls are used. But we will also program
Siemens S5, S7 and ORMON PLC's.
Feasibility Studies
In carrying out a feasibility study, several design iterations are
normally carried out to find the maximum "Net Present Value" of the project.
Each iteration is simulated for a 3 year period and the net fuel and costs
savings are compared. The program takes into account variables such as fuel energy
and CO2 content, daily, monthly usage patterns as well as expected energy
inflation figures. The resulting output forms part
of the overall feasibility report, and the figures obtained are an important
part of the grant application.
Our experience to date has seen that heavy hot water
users such as sports clubs, restaurants, hotels, B& B's have the best
payback periods. If LPG is being used for heating purposes then the implementation
of a solar heating system coupled to a buffer tank can also lead to significant
cost savings.
SEI Reheat Grants
The SEI REHEAT grant programme offers commercial applications
a 30% grant on the cost of a renewable energy heating installation. The
process is more complicated and the timelines are longer than the SEI
greener homes scheme, however the overall grant levels are very generous
and worth the effort.
Under the ReHeat Deployment programme, grants are available for the deployment of
qualifying renewable heating systems in the following categories.
- Boilers fueled by wood chips and/or wood pellets
- Solar thermal systems
- Heat pumps
Installations can be in the commercial, industrial, services and public sectors
and also includes community organisations in Ireland.
We offer free advice and can undertake a detailed and costed
feasibility study (normally charged at a nominal €800 +VAT) required
for the grant application. However the cost of the feasibility study is
deducted from the overall project cost.
